As seen on Fox News 35...Our community is reaching out now more than ever to help those in desperate need during the COVID-19 virus. I want to call your attention to one of our community charities that has reached out to help women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence since 2003, Elizabeth House Inc. a local non-profit, 501(c)3, faith-based, charitable organization. This charity has given hundreds of families a safe place to live for 6 – 9 months while they got back on their feet and gain self-sufficiency enough to move out and live their lives violence-free.
Elizabeth House not only provides a safe place for women and children to live but also offers emotional support, spiritual enrichment, one- on -one peer counseling, life skill classes, and many other services to prepare them to move out and become financially and emotionally independent women. We also help children break the cycle of abuse by offering a loving living environment, build self-esteem, provide books for the children to read gearing towards how abuse may affect them, and help them learn how to resolve conflicts without violence.
With Domestic Violence on the rise, we desperately need funds more than ever to help save the lives of the women in our community. Elizabeth House receives no government funding and solely relies on private donations to keep the House running. Since COVID-19, Elizabeth House has lost about 75% of the donations it was receiving. The virus has diminished their funding to the point they have a chance of closing down this much-needed community charity; and the owner of their current rental home, sadly died recently, they have until August 1st to move, displacing all the women and children.
Our hope is to make this next move to a new home the last. Expenses to keep Elizabeth House open come to roughly $45,000-$50,000 per year to rent a home. We are asking for your help to raise funds to purchase a home for this much-needed charity in our Central Florida community. Giving a permanent home for this charity will allow Elizabeth House to have a stable residence and allow further growth for the charity by developing additional support groups, services, and the much-needed awareness in our community. We understand times of hard for everyone, we are grateful for any amount you can give, and are very thankful for your consideration.
