I remember the day when I couldn't even run a mile. I remember going on Google Maps to find out how far a mile would be from my house because I wanted to "get in shape" before I joined track in high school. For the first few minutes I sprinted up the street thinking, "Hey, this isn't that bad," only to stop and walk after 300yds. Over the next few years, those miles started to build and my confidence soared. I was becoming someone who I looked up to. Running has given me the ability to push myself further than I have ever imagined. It has brought me friendships with those I never would have met. But most of all, it has shown me that I can do whatever I put my mind to because a girl who once couldn't run a mile is now running 10.
The Fairmount Park Conservancy holds a special place in my heart because of the many hours and miles spent at Belmount Plateu (second picture from many moons ago). From running up the trails myself to watching my friends and family, Fairmount Park is a Philadelphia treasure. It's an honor to raise money for such a program that brings so much life to the city and the people in it.
