Eliana was born with CHARGE syndrome and spent her first 4 months in the NICU in Indianapolis until it was determined that the airway specialists in Cincinnati were her only hope for treating her tracheal esophageal fistula. After arriving at CCH, Eliana went into early heart failure and required an emergency cardiac catheterization. The 2-3 week stay we had prepared our family for turned into 4 months. After recovering from her slide-tracheoplasty, we decided it was safer for her to have her AV canal repaired at CCH too. Unfortunately her heart was more damaged than everyone had expected and required 3 open heart procedures and then a pacemaker placement. Even after enduring all of this it was Eliana's airway that became the issue that ultimately ended her life. On June 7th, 2018 Eliana experienced a life threatening event which the CICU team was not able to bring her out of and we said goodbye to our beautiful girl.
