No One Gets There Alone
Chances are somewhere along your journey there were people who encouraged or pushed you towards your potential. It may have been a parent, a teacher, a relative, or a mentor. Unfortunately, many of today’s urban youth lack this positive guidance, resulting in alarming dropout, teen pregnancy, and incarceration rates. That’s where Elevate comes in; with meaningful relationships, opportunities, and experiences that shape students into the young adults we know they can become. By building long-term, life-changing relationships with urban youth, Elevate is equipping them to thrive and contribute to their community.
Elevate USA created a unique model for helping urban students graduate high school that has garnered national attention. Elevate hires full-time teacher-mentors who 1) teach accredited classes in public high schools on character and life skills; 2) mentor students outside of school. These teacher mentors are available to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year long. They are there when kids need it the most.
From 4th grade to 12th grade, this relationship-based approach focuses on four areas: Accredited Classes, Mentoring, Adventure, and College & Career. Through Elevate, students demonstrate growth in their academic success, leadership skills, positive role-modeling, and preparation for career advancement and higher education. The process builds character in high school and middle school students, as well as life skills, ambition, intelligence, and a desire to engage in the community.
The reach and impact of Elevate USA's programs have been nothing short of extraordinary and extensive. Serving in over 60 public schools in 11 different cities, Elevate USA is reaching over 8500 youth. Entire futures are shifting and more and more cities are adopting Elevate in their schools. And they should! Right now, 98 percent of Elevate's participants are on track to graduate high school and an astonishing 86 percent are heading to college, vocational school or the military!
