We reached our first goal in just a few months, and we were blown away by the generosity of our family and friends. We wondered if maybe we could increase our goal to $1500 in hopes of helping provide more for the children.
And we reached our second goal within a few weeks. So we are going to leave the fundraising event open until after our climb.
Thank you for considering this charity. 100% of donations go to provide for the children's education.
This summer Megan, Bethany, and Charley will be climbing Mt. Meru in Tanzania in the summer of 2018. Almost 5 years ago Bethany climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and was successful in her summit and raising funds and awareness for this cause so dear to our family. We have decided we want to climb the 2nd tallest mountain in Tanzania and promote awareness of three things: 1) doing for others 2) promoting education 3) raising fund for Mercy Care Centre Foundation (which supports education in the slums of Mathare Valley in Nairobi, Kenya) Our family has been involved with education in Mathare Valley in the Slums of Nairobi, Kenya for the past 20 years. We have all worked here in the USA and in the slums of Mathare to help provide educational opportunities for the poorest of children we have ever witnessed. Through the Mercy Care Centre Foundation, 100's of students have received a daily meal, education, and love from the dedicated teachers. For many of the students, this is the only meal and love they get each day. Over the years we have watched students leave the school and attend secondary schools and even university. It is truly the only hope that these children have in such a dire situation for a successful future. As educators, Bethany and Charley know the value and impact education can have on a student's path forward. As a student, Megan knows that opportunities are exciting and can lead to greater things. She wants others to have opportunities to find their passions. As a family, we want to do for others when we can. We are asking you to support us and our climb. To make things more interesting, Megan, Bethany, and Charley have challenged each other to raise the most money. The winner will ultimately be the children of Mathare Valley, but for our challenge, the winner will get bragging rights and rights to post pictures of losers dressed by the winner on social media. If you are not able to donate, please share in an effort to help us accomplish our 3 goals. All the money raised will go to the Mercy Care Centre Foundation and is tax deductible.
