Your generous, kind, amazing donation will support the ECI Nepal Elephant Healthcare Program in Nepal and the Green Hill Valley Mobile Elephant Veterinary Unit in Myanmar, allowing ECI and its partners to bring critical, hands-on emergency and routine healthcare to more than 200 elephants!
These elephants need medicine! They need first-aid supplies! They need hands-on veterinary care! They need healing! THEY NEED YOU!
Here's why. One of every three Asian elephants lives in captivity. Many of these approximately 14,000 captive Asian elephants lack basic healthcare due to a scarcity of veterinary resources and training. Lack of proper preventative and emergency healthcare too often lead to chronic pain and suffering from treatable conditions--wound infections, intestinal illnesses, dental problems, chronic foot conditions, etc.
Moreover, wild elephant populations are at risk of diseases (TB) introduced by captive elephants and from wounds from gunshots, snares, and other human-made dangers. Every day, these challenges increase due to expanding human populations throughout Asia.
Veterinarians in the 13 Asian elephant range countries receive surprisingly little if any instruction in diagnosing and treating problems in elephants and are often unaware of the new positive training techniques that can make veterinary procedures less stressful and more effective.
