Two years ago, Solomon was a 13-year-old middle-child in a family of five boys living on the streets of Uganda without hope, desperate for an opportunity to go to school. He had followed his older brothers onto the streets and his younger brothers were on his heels. Solomon said, “I never thought of being at school because I had lost hope in the future.”
Over 328,000 eligible Ugandan elementary school students are not in school despite Ugandan universal primary education! These children are being left behind, stuck in the cycle of poverty, with a limited future entrenched in hopelessness. The Eleazar African Foundation is launching the first learning and counselling center in Lira, Uganda in 2020! The Eleazar Center, a therapeutic learning center, will offer an alternative educational experience and a sacred space for healing and reconciliation guided by mental health professionals. Taking a two-pronged approach to combat systemic poverty and trauma, we strive to restore, reconcile, and renew our community!
Today, Solomon can confidently say, “Studying has helped me to know things I didn’t use to know. I can write. I can read now. I will continue to study hard and give my best effort not to waste this opportunity.” The Eleazar Center will open doors for more children like Solomon to build their dreams!
Eleazar African Foundation cannot provide these vulnerable children with healthy meals, showers and clean clothes, medical care, basic primary level education, counselling, life skills, income generating activities, and recreational activities without your support!
