In less than a month I'm running my first marathon, the iconic New York Marathon. I've trained across the United States this year, from the steep seaside hills of San Francisco to the flat endless cornfields of Nebraska. I've trained in the DC humidity and the Chicago snow, through thunderstorms in South Dakota and foggy dawns in Utah canyons. I signed up for the New York Marathon without fundraising because I did not want anything to dissuade me, but now that the date is looming, so too is access to a fundamental right I care about deeply.
The Supreme Court is taking on a case about abortion for the first time since Trump's conservative appointees - Kavanaugh and Gorsuch - took the bench. They will be reviewing abortion legislation in Louisiana which makes abortion more difficult to access. This could decide the future of abortion access in the United States. I believe that abortion is a fundamental right for women's reproductive health. If you can, please help me fundraise for Planned Parenthood in the crucial work they do to protect access to legal, safe abortion.
A marathon is no small undertaking, but it feels small in comparison to the decisions I have made about whether and when to become a mother. No woman should be denied this choice. We all know the brutal history of backyard abortions, let's not go backwards.
Any donation means so much to me, and your support will give me the energy to get through those final miles.
