Last month, we went down to El Salvador with OneKid OneWorld (www.onekidoneworld.org), on whose board Lanny has sat and been involved with for the last 10 years to participate in an Extreme School Makeover of sorts. Over the course of four days, we painted murals in new classrooms, demolished old brick outhouses to make way for a new playground, assembled bookshelves and more, but best of all, we got to play with the kids, serve them ice cream and come to understand how the majority of them would not go beyond the 4th grade. The schools in which OneKid OneWorld works are remote, in rural areas. If it wasn't for us, nobody would help these students and schools. There are no government resources. El Salvador is a very poor country where kids can easily become susceptible to gangs and give up on education. As part of OKOW's mission to provide a foundation for education in areas of need, it is our goal to continue to go into schools and help create an environment where students can learn, feel safe and hopefully have a better chance at a brighter future. As such, we need your help! Building classrooms, a new kitchen where kids might get their only hot meal of the day and new working bathrooms all costs money. We can attest firsthand at the impact these changes can have on the school and community. With your help, we can continue to make a difference.
