Effie is one of 9 puppies the Humane Society for Hamilton County rescued from a high kill shelter 2 weeks ago. They were malnourished and filled with parasites. But Effie, the runt, was nearly half the size of her brothers and sisters and struggling to thrive. She has continued to struggle in her foster home weighing in at just 4lbs at 9 weeks old. Today, Effie crashed. She was rushed to Noah's Animal Hospital West Side ER where they discovered she had suffered an intestinal intussusception--where due to an inflammation of the intestines, a portion of the intestine prolapses out of its normal place and folds. She was so sick she would need a blood transfusion before undergoing surgery. Noah's shared this would be very risky due to her size and already being so compromised, and the cost with a significant discount was $2,000. Effie has already beat so many odds, so we had to give her this chance. We couldn't be happier to report that Dr. Spivak just shared that Effie made it through surgery and is stable. She's not out of the woods, but Dr. Spivak definitely worked her magic performing the smallest intestinal resection of her career on this baby. Effie is a fighter. Won't you please help us fund her life-saving care.
