“Of all 58 counties in California, Marin County ranks #1 in racial disparities. Ironically, it also ranks first in economic and other financial performance measures reflecting the benefit and advantages afforded to the white population.” - Canal Alliance
Did you know...30% of all K-12 public school students in Marin County qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program? This is a staggering 9,611 of our community’s children!
2020 has been an incredibly difficult year.
Disparities are widening with the lack of resources, access to healthcare, and now with distance learning. Prior to 2020, children in our County with fewer resources already faced an overlooked and unacceptable learning opportunity gap. With the COVID- related limitations in our schools, these same children are in jeopardy of falling even further behind due to distance learning and the challenges it poses to families. Private learning hubs are amplifying educational inequities throughout Marin.
We can no longer stand by and watch this happen.
“Privilege is when you think something’s not a problem because it’s not a problem for you personally.” -David Gaider
We're fundraising to support Learning Hub programs in our County that focus on mitigating the potential learning gap resulting from COVID-related educational limitations. These hubs will ensure vulnerable students receive help while distance learning as part of a full-distance or hybrid model.
We have joined forces with well established local equity focused non-profits: Marin Promise Partnership and the Marin County Library Foundation. Marin Promise Partnership is publishing clear data about the Marin Community Learning Hubs to ensure transparency and accountability (MPP data). Marin County Library Foundation will be collecting all donations and will be allocating the funds to the Community Learning Hubs.
It is our collective responsibility to not only acknowledge this disparity but also to do something about it. We are asking you to donate to help narrow the learning gap in Marin.
Sending love, compassion, and gratitude. Together WE can make a difference.
