Domestic Workers United, a New York City-based 501c3 nonprofit organization supporting nannies, house cleaners, and elder caregivers, has provided weekly Town Hall Check In Calls for domestic workers in our network every Saturday since COVID-19 began. The DWU LOVE OFFERING EMERGENCY FUND provides workers in our network with an immediate small "love offering" emergency stipend direct from your donations to help with groceries, phone bills, and medication costs. While some workers deemed essential under state law may have continued to care for clients despite personal risk during COVID-19, most others were quarantined during the lock down, without pay. Many others faced pandemic-related layoffs. With $11,250 (our fundraising goal) DWU can continue distributing one-time immediate stipends of $150 to up to 75 domestic workers, who can apply here. Please provide us with: your name, your neighborhood, your full postal address, and the method of payment you prefer (PayPal, Venmo, check or other method). There will be no policing of applicants. NYC-based domestic workers known to DWU will be prioritized, though, and we respectfully ask that if you were not currently doing domestic work before the pandemic within New York City (working as a nanny, house cleaner, or elder caregiver in Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Staten Island), please do not apply. Applications are still being accepted. Payments will be sent out as soon as possible, based on what funds we raise. Thank you so much to our generous donors and we thank YOU in advance for making a love offering to our emergency fund for domestic workers in New York City to help with groceries, phone bills, or medications! Together we will make it through.
