Domestic Workers United, a New York City-based 501c3 nonprofit organization supporting nannies, house cleaners, and elder caregivers, has partnered with MutualAid NYC to expand our capacity to provide a variety of forms of supports to domestic workers in our network at this time, including weekly town hall check in calls related to COVID-19 and other initiatives. The DWU LOVE OFFERING Campaign will provide workers in our network an immediate small "love offering" stipend, from your donations, to help with groceries, phone bills, and medication costs. While some workers deemed essential under state law may have continued to care for clients despite personal risk during COVID-19, many others are self-protecting and self-quarantining at this time, without pay. Others have already faced pandemic-related layoffs. With $11,250 (our fundraising goal) DWU will distribute one-time immediate stipends of $150 to up to 75 domestic workers, who can apply here. Please provide us with: your name, your neighborhood, your full postal address, and the method of payment you prefer (PayPal, Venmo, check or other method). There will be no policing of applicants under current and universal circumstances of great need. However, NYC-based domestic workers known to DWU will be prioritized, and we respectfully ask that if you were not currently doing domestic work within New York City (working as a nanny, house cleaner, or elder caregiver in Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Staten Island), please do not apply. The first application period will be open from April 15th to May 1st, 2020. Payments will be sent out as soon as possible. We hope to initiate a second round, depending on response from our donors to this campaign. Thank you so much in advance for making a love offering to domestic workers in New York City to help with groceries, phone bills, or medications! Together we will make it through this.
