This memorial day, OTFDTSV and OTFMOHHILL take on The Murph! The Murph is a special workout, named for Lt. Michael P. Murphy a United States Navy SEAL officer who was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan. He was the first member of the U.S. Navy to receive the award since the Vietnam War. His other posthumous awards include the Silver Star Medal (which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor) and the Purple Heart. He was killed on June 28, 2005, after his team was compromised and surrounded by Taliban forces near Asadabad, Afghanistan. This workout named in Michael's honor is performed at gyms across the country on Memorial Day. It was his favorite workout-he called it "Body Armor". The traditional "Murph" consists of a 1-mile run, 100 Pull-ups, 200 Push-ups, 300 Squats, and a final 1 mile run, however we are going to add our OTF spin to it and incorporate some rowing. Our "Murph" will be" -2900m Row -100 TRX Pull-ups -200 Push-ups -300 Squats -1 mile run The floor exercises can be done in any rep structure you choose, but the 2900m row and the 1mile run must be done in continuously. We will have two heats, one heat for individuals who want to complete the Murph on their own and a heat for teams of two (one person runs, the other rows and the floor work is divided). This is a charity fundraiser. 100% of proceeds will go to Operation Freedom Paws http://operationfreedompaws.org/ "Operation Freedom Paws empowers veterans and others with disabilities to restore their own independence. Operation Freedom Paws empowers veterans and others with disabilities to live a quality life by teaching them to train their own dogs, and certifying them as service dog teams. The dogs, usually from rescue organizations or shelters, are carefully evaluated. Each is then matched to a specific client’s physical and psychological needs. There is no charge – all we ask is a commitment to complete the 48-week training program. The fundraising minimum to enter and save yourself a spot is $25 but we are encouraging participants to raise at least $100. Our goal is to raise $5000 as a team, so even if you aren't planning to participate, you can sponsor a fellow member and help us reach our goal!
