Dreamer Fund Emergency Aid Scholarship
The Dreamer Fund Emergency scholarship is for undocumented law students experiencing an emergency or hardship. Examples of an emergency include medical emergencies, evictions due to non-payment of rent, lack of food, DACA initial or renewal appications, California State Bar Exam Fees, etc. At least two applicants will be selected to receive this scholarship each semester in the amount of $500 each.
We assist Dreamers and undocumented students financially to pursue and complete law school through creative community engagement.
Our vision is to raise funds to provide financial support for Dreamer and undocumented law students in the Bay Area and expand to include all undocumented law students in the nation. We also strive to raise awareness surrounding the struggles and difficulties that undocumented students face. We seek to bring about substantive change to educational institutions to help undocumented students in a more concise and permanent way. Our goal is to use fundraising, art, photography, storytelling, community engagement, and leadership as tools for change to benefit the future of undocumented law students.
The DREAMer Fund was created in 2016 by a coalition of law students in San Francisco, California. The coalition was a response to several undocumented law students who were facing forced withdrawal and paying for their law school tuition and other expenses, which jeopardized their ability to continue and complete their legal education. Our group consists of multicultural, mixed immigration status professionals, and allies eager to make a change. Through our combined skills, knowledge and passions we seek to address systemic issues in the education system that frustrates undocumented students’ ability to achieve their professional goals. Likewise, it is our priority to forge a safe space for all persons.
