The Drexel Field Hockey team will be hosting its annual Play4theCure game vs California-Berkeley on Sunday September 29 at 1pm at Drexel's Buckley Field at the Vidas Athletic Complex
This year the game will be competed in support specifically of Philadelphia-area's own Gretta Ehret but also in honor and memory of all of our loved ones who have fought cancer throughout the years.
Coach Margaretha "Gretta" Ehret was recently diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer at the age of 32. While Gretta’s untiring spirit and energy will certainly bolster her fight, the support and fundraising efforts of the Phila-area field hockey community can make a huge impact. For all who know Gretta, her unwavering passion for coaching and developing female athletes into strong, fit, confident young women is evident in all she does. With her trademark enthusiasm from the sidelines, Gretta led her Merion Mercy team to the PIAA AA State Championship in 2017 and has been a positive influence and beloved role model to all the athletes she’s coached. A native of the Philadelphia area, Gretta was a standout player at Penn Charter and the University of Pennsylvania where she earned All-Ivy League honors and served as team captain. But honors have never meant much to Gretta; her driving force has been to help athletes of all ages and abilities to become better players and better people. It’s our turn to help.Last spring, Gretta left her full-time teaching position to open the F.I.T. Hockey Academy with her sister, which was just taking off, when she received this challenging diagnosis. In an effort to help with Gretta’s mounting medical expenses, we ask for your support.
