March 5th is the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program - a deadline and an unnecessary crisis created by Donald Trump. The Center for Popular Democracy is working with a number of allies - United We Dream, the Women's March, and many, many others, to bring people to Washington, DC on March 5th for a march and direct action, demanding Congress take action to protect Dreamers, and to show Trump that our resistance is stronger than ever! Can you chip in $10? $50? $100? whatever you can! - to help us pay for this important day of action?
Six months ago, Donald Trump made the heartless decision to end DACA, a program that provided almost a million young immigrants who grew up in this country work authorization and protection from deportation. Since then, hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients have been living with uncertainty - wondering if they will have to drop out of school, lose their job, be torn away from their families, uprooted from their home. But these young immigrants have also been on the frontlines of the fight for a clean DREAM Act, and many Dreamers throughout the Center for Popular Democracy network have been lifting their voices and taking action for the past six months - traveling to DC to speak directly to their members of Congress and participating in rallies, hunger strikes and acts of civil disobedience. They have expressed frustration with Congress for not taking action. They have expressed rage at Trump for trying to use Dreamers as political pawns to pass a series of racist policies that would be devastating for immigrant communities. They have expressed fear about what the March 5 deadline means for them and their families. But they have also expressed an incredible sense of resiliency. 'You can take away our papers,' they have said, 'but you cannot take away our dignity.'
On March 5th, the Center for Popular Democracy is working with a number of allies - United We Dream, the Women's March, and many, many others, to bring people to the nation's capitol for a march and direct action. We have people signed up from all over the country who want to come to DC - and are willing to risk arrest as part of the direct action. Many of them are Dreamers and their families. Many of them are health care activists, women, faith leaders and others, who unerstand that your liberation is bound up with mine. But we don't have enough resources to pay for them to all get here. Will you chip in $10? $50? $100? whatever you can - to help us pay for travel, food, lodging and other basic logistics for people to participate in this important day of action? Thank you!
