We are Down For Dance!
What an incredible 2nd year we had! We currently offer 7 classes throughout Orange County and Long Beach and serve about 65 dancers throughout our program! And to think we started with about 20 dancers just 2 years ago! This is all possible because of our donors and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us over these past 2 years.
Throughout the year, our dancers have performed 12 times at a variety of exciting events including:
Disability Rights Legal Center Gala on the Fox Studios lot
ReelAbilities Film Festival at Universal CityWalk
The Down Syndrome Association of Orange County (DSAOC) Annual Buddy Walk at Angel Stadium
Shane's Inspiration Annual Walk & Roll at Griffith Park
Long Beach Special Olympics
World Down Syndrome Day celebration at Pacific City in HB
as well as various studio and community events throughout Long Beach and Orange County.
In addition to performing, we also:
Produced a promo video, created by the wonderfully talented, Sam Lembeck
Held a professional photo shoot by our dear friend, Drexelle Park
Hosted our 2nd Annual Musical Theater Summer Camp
Had a photo of our dancers featured in the LA Times
And we provided professional hair & makeup artists for our dancers at almost all of these performances and events!
These performances and events are always a highlight, though the majority of our program consists of the high quality dance education, technique, and training we provide for our dancers through our year-round programming. Not only do the dancers learn dance technique and choreography, but they also:
Gain self-confidence and focus
Strengthen balance and coordination
Cultivate friendships and a sense of community
All while having fun!
All of this is possible for our dancers because of the support we receive from our community.
This holiday season, as part of #GivingTuesday, we are looking to raise $5,000 over the next 2 weeks. GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world on December 3, 2019 and every day.
A full semester of dance classes cost students $275 - including tuition and a performance costume. It costs Down For Dance about $360 per student for a semester of dance classes. Additionally, Down For Dance offers scholarships and we have never turned away a dancer due to financial hardship.
Our goals are to continue to provide our dancers with exceptional opportunities, develop a teacher training program to train more instructors and add more classes to serve more individuals. We can only do this with the help of our community and we are asking for your support.
Any donation amount is welcome! There is no limit to how much or little you are willing to contribute. Every dollar counts and will go toward providing a fun, unique and empowering opportunity for an individual with Down syndrome.
Who are we?
Down For Dance is 501(c)(3) non-profit dance program in Southern California. Our mission is, "To empower individuals with Down syndrome to build a stronger sense of self through dance." Down For Dance is driven by a deep passion to develop and offer quality programming for those populations that are not normally exposed to artistic forms of expression.
We currently have 7 classes operating in Long Beach and Orange County, and due to high demand, we're continuing to grow. The word continues to spread and demand by dancers in our surrounding communities is STRONG!
Thank you for your support and helping us reach our goal!
