A Long Swim (ALS) fun raiser event will be held at 7:00 am this Sunday, June 2nd in Lake Zurich, IL. I will swim the 1mile distance to support research in hopes of finding a cure for this debilitating disease. My goal is to raise $300 by this Sunday. I am grateful to be able to participate in such an important cause that sadly and suddenly affects far too many men and womens nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weaknes, a loss of motor function, paralysis, and breathing problems. I can only imagine the heartache ALS patience experience. I am humbled to inform you that just 2 months ago, I could not enter a swimming pool and enjoy excerising with my fellow Masters Swimmers due to recovering from hip replacement. My surgery does not come close to those suffering with ALS.
Today, I’m VERY happy to be “back in the swim” with full use of all my muscles. I have gained empathy for those who have lost the ability to swim due to ALS. Those afflicted with ALS have inspired me to continue doing what I love to do. My thoughts, prayers, and support are with them and for them, as I hope yours are as well. THANK YOU! Sincerely, Donna Maday
