On Friday, Oct. 30th, we got a distressing message notifying us of a cat with a broken jaw. He was the victim in a domestic violence dispute. The matter is currently being investigated and we’re hoping justice will brought. The owner surrendered the cat to us, as well as her other cat, as they are not safe in that environment. Our priority as rescuers is to get the cat to safety and to the medical care he needs. We immediately took him to Oaks Care in Agoura Hills, where he was put on pain medication and evaluated. Ash was assessed to be in a massive state of shock. His blood glucose and ketones were (and continue to be) through the roof. He is unable to eat. It’s not even possible to syringe feed him. He has to have a feeding tube placed. The damage done to this cat turned out to be worse than expected and we were advised to take him to a specialty clinic for further evaluation and treatment.
Yesterday, we took him to True Care for Pets where he was immediately sedated and a CT scan was done. The CT scan revealed a mandible fracture as well as severe TMJ fractures and missing bottom teeth. This is going to require a complex surgery with a top dental surgeon. It is unfathomable to think anyone could have done something so despicable to this sweet cat but someone did. The doctor confirmed that this was done by a human, either a direct hard kick or he was hit with something. It was done by someone who this cat trusted which makes this all the more heart wrenching, infuriating and agonizing.
Despite everything, Ash has remained a complete love through it all. He is such a sweet and loving cat. He is crying out for help. We know times are tough but please help us help this cat. He did not deserve this horrid abuse. He does not deserve to be euthanized either. There is a surgery that will fix his injury and we need your help to make that happen for him. Please help us. We cannot fail him, we simple can’t.
