It's that time of year again.. the time to celebrate our hero, Dominic Morici or what his loving grandpa used to call him, The Mighty D! Dominic was just 5 months old when he was diagnosed with Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG). Dominic is just 1 of 180 children and young adults in the US affected by this very rare metabolic disorder. People with CDGs have ongoing health concerns because their bodies cannot properly add sugar building blocks to proteins. Every part of the body requires glycosylation to work normally, which explains the many different health problems that he is presented with. To say that Dominic hasn't struggled would be an understatement, but he remains strong, conquering every obstacle that is given to him and ALWAYS with a smile on his face. Dominic, now 19 months, babbles all day long, grabs and plays with everything he is not supposed to and has recently learned how to army crawl. If you have followed our journey from the beginning you know that it hasn't always been easy, you know that we can not predict what his life will look like, but we take it day by day, with nothing but hope to guide us along. We have learned many things while Dominic has been in our life, but the most important of them all is to celebrate each small victory while cherishing every giggle!
It is with great pleasure to announce the 2nd annual Dominic Strong campaign and help raise money for CDG CARE, an organization that provides hope, support and skilled guidance in a world with so many unknowns. Their experienced community took Dominic and our family under their wings while we started navigating through his diagnosis and that's why it means SO much to us to continue to help them spread awareness, advance education and research, and provide resources to families that will help improve the lives of children and young adults diagnosed with CDG.
Team Dominic Strong will be running in the Race to Wrigley on April 27. Please consider joining us and help power up our fundraising efforts! We also will be hosting our 2nd annual Sunday Fun-draiser at Miner St. Tavern in Des Plaines on June 2. There will be dancing, cocktailing and tons of prizes to be raffled off.
Proud Dominic Strong Parents,
Karen & Joe Morici
