Help us support victims of domestic violence and human trafficking during this time of need.
With the coronavirus outbreak, A Safe Place is needed now more than ever. Being the sole provider of domestic violence and humand trafficking services in Lake County, the pandemic is impacting our organization and clients in unique and challenging ways. We are focusing our efforts and resources on providing services to those in need.
This is a particularly overwhelming time for survivors of domestic violence, as new fears for their health exacerbate their existing abuse and ability to access safety.
People who are surviving domestic violence may be experiencing increased isolation and danger, and likely have lost their in-person support system due to stay-at-home orders.
We have seen a rise from individuals seeking help. Calls to our 24-hour crisis hotline have risen from 14 a week last year to 103 a week to date, and clients needing emergency shelter have doubled, with our shelter at capacity and an additional 32 clients safely sheltering in alternative locations.
We continue to provide counseling services to over 150 clients via teleconference, legal advocacy through our office at the Lake County Courthouse to assist individuals with orders of protection, and assistance with family visitations and custody visits.
Your gift will help continue to provide critical services during these tenuous times such as crisis counseling, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, adult and children's counseling and more.
"Thanks to A Safe Place services, this is the first time in months that my kids and I have felt free, clearheaded and safe"~ Susan
