District 14 covers from Venice to Port Charlotte, Marco Island, Fort Myers and as far as Naples.
Almost without exception dogs coming into the rescue require vet care, whether that is under our spay/neuter program or for diseases such as heartworm, which can cost up to $800.00 to treat. We are fortunate to have a network of vets in each district who work with us at special rates.
To help fund these expenses, volunteers undertake various fundraising efforts. In District 14 we do events from pet store meet and greets to festivals to local farmers markets where we sell tug toys and other crafts hand-made by our local volunteers. Later this year, with the help of a local dog-loving bar owner, we are going to stage a major fundraiser that we will call Lagers for Labs. All volunteers give of their time and all funds raised go to the rescue.
We are looking for sponsorship through donation also, as 2 of our volunteers are walking/hiking/climbing(!!) the 96 miles of the West Highland Way in Scotland in September. The West Highland Way stretches 96 miles from Milngavie to Fort William in Scotland, taking in a huge variety of scenery along the way, from countryside parks to loch shores and open moorlands to steep mountains.
