Listen. One is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports individuals who need to talk to somebody. We are not licensed therapists. What sets our service apart from teletherapy and crisis chat lines is that we simply want to be a friend that is open to chat with you about anything – relationships, religion, jobs, lifestyle changes, disabilities, illnesses, and anything else that is going on in your life. While we do not give professional advice, we are open-minded, we listen carefully, and we love you.
Through our non-judgmental chatting service, we have had the privilege of connecting with so many people who are lonely, need a friend, want to vent about their lives, and more. This helps our Sharer, the person that messages us, feel less alone. It also helps our Listeners, the volunteers chatting with you, share their life experience to provide comfort in your situation. We have several other Communities that we want to support, as they often need a Listener more than the average person. One of those communities is the Disabilities Community.
We have created specific campaigns for each of these Communities in an effort to encourage donations toward a cause that you may feel more compelled to help. We all need help sometimes, and we want you to know that 97% of your contribution will go toward the Community of your choice, and help Listen. One focus more on providing assistance to that specific cause. 3% will go toward GoFundMe processing fees.
It matters if you just don’t give up. — Stephen Hawking, English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge
The definition of a disability is: any condition that makes it more difficult for a person to do certain activities or interact with the world around them. These conditions, or impairments, may be cognitive, developmental, intellectual, mental, physical, sensory, or a combination of multiple factors.
Disabilities come in all shapes and sizes and are both visible and invisible. Although having a disability may make you feel different, we believe that God created all of us equally. At Listen One, we want to make sure you know that. Our goal is to support any person that is differently abled and create an environment that is understanding. We want to empower our Sharers, so they feel less alone, more encouraged, and more loved for exactly who they are.
