How To Get Started
Here's how to add fundraising to your next dinner party

It’s easy to add a charity component to a dinner party! The steps to throwing the party don’t change - you invite the guests, provide food and booze, and you make sure everyone has a blast. The only difference here is you include information about camp at three different times: before, during and after the dinner.

Before the Dinner

When you invite your dinner guests, give them a heads up that you’ll be sharing more with them about camp. You can include the link to the video, share your personal fundraising goal, and let them know what to expect of the evening.

Here’s a sample dinner invite:

Hi _______,

I wanted to invite you to a dinner party at my home on [insert date]. It’s going to be [insert theme] themed, so come ready for lots of [fill in]. What makes this dinner party different is that it’ll also be a fundraiser for Experience Camps. I’ve set a personal goal to raise [insert number here] dollars for camp, and I’m hoping you can help me get there.

Experience Camps are free one-week camps for kids who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caregiver. It's a place where kids can laugh, cry, play, create and remember the person who died. Experience Camps have impacted me in ways I couldn’t imagine -- I remember when…  [Insert personal anecdote here].

At the dinner, I will be sharing my camp story [or insert who will be sharing their camp story], and you’ll also meet some other volunteers. I’ll also share ways you can get involved. As we say at camp, it’s all For the Kids #FTK.

Let me know if you can join us for dinner on [insert date]. If you are unable to make it and would like to donate now, click here and put my name in the tribute section so I can track how I’m doing against my goal.

Hope to see you!

During the Dinner

During the dinner is your time to share the Experience Camps story. It’s up to you if you want to give a speech or if you want to ask another volunteer to speak, though sharing your personal experience with the camp is really powerful -- especially as it comes from one adult to another.

If you have a large screen, you may also want to show the camp video.

After the Dinner

Follow up with your guests by sending them an email and link to donate. Try to keep the email short and succinct, with a strong call to action.

Sample template:

Hi ______,

Thanks for coming by dinner on __________. I loved having you there and sharing more about Experience Camps with you.

I’d be so appreciative if you could help me reach my fundraising goal of _________. Please consider donating and put my name in the tribute section so we track how much I’ve raised.

Thanks again,

Remember, let your guests know when you hit your goal and thank them for making it possible!
