Friends of the Third World (Friends of the Poor)'s mission is to partner with unemployed or anxiously employed families and single adults toward self reliance.
Ignoring geogrpahic boundries we partner with crafts makers and small family farmers to import their products, marketing them with a fair share going to the
families, On the marketing side low income adults learning practical skills of
marketing, accounting, computer skills and general maintenance led by a small
professional staff and community volunteers operate the store.
When the stay and home directive came about the local store was closed except
for maiil order and all the participants were told to wait at home for safety.
We were able to continue training stipends based on government grants thru
the middle of May, 2020 and operate with only three managers. Sales which leads
to reorders for our artisan partners dropped 90% and most partners were also
asked to quarantine at home due to spread of the virus in their country.
Basically our program to provide training and our program to provide earning income
has stopped, hopefully temporarily. Once the stay at home is lifted we feel our program is neede more than ever as emergency foods and help will be in short supply
everywhere. So far our manager have been able to be paid based on the small
amount of income from program services.
