In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Ukraine is currently in quarantine due to COVID-19. To help some of the most vulnerable, we are purchasing and delivering essential supplies to families of children with special needs in Ukraine.
For six years, Nikita's parents thought they were ready to become parents, how many hopes they had for their firstborn, how eagerly they awaited his birth… The pregnancy went well, nothing foretold that the continuation of this story would be so sad. The one who was supposed to help the boy be born healthy, turned the child's life into a nightmare from the very first minutes of his life in this world. It was the negligence of doctors that led to the fact that 42 hours passed from the moment his mother's water broke and Nikita was born! These 42 hours of waterless period as well as severe asphyxia did the trick. The child's life began under the sign of diagnoses: spastic tetraparesis, mental delays, seizures... The baby bravely, like a real future man, fights for his full existence. His parents devote all their energies to him, continuing to believe that their dream of a happy family will come true.
Nikita is now 5 years old. He is in need of diapers and medicines. Can you help?
