The Berkshire Community Diaper Project was established in 2014 as an all-volunteer agency dedicated to providing diapers to families in need. All money donated goes solely to purchasing diapers, which are then distributed free of charge to low- to -moderate income families throughout Berkshire County, MA. Diapers are a necessary item but are NOT covered by SNAP or WIC. They can cost up to $100 monthly for each child. We partner with more than a dozen food pantries and social service agencies to ensure diapers get to those who need them, but who struggle to afford them along with other necessities such as rent, heat, transportation and food. Research (Smith, et al., Pediatrics, 2003) shows that diaper need is an even stronger predictor of resultant stress and mental health problems in parents than food insecurity. Parents who can't provide diapers often feel guilty, powerless, frustrated and hopeless. Without disposable diapers, children cannot attend day care and their parent/caregiver then misses work or school. Since September 2014 we have distributed more than 850,000 diapers! Please make a tax deductible donation to help support families take care of their young children.
