In honor of my birthday this month I'm raising money for the Migraine Research Foundation. As most of you know, I have been disabled by chronic migraine for many years. I am a lawyer, but have not been able to practice since 2007. Living with this disease has a significant impact on my ability to be a present parent for Harper and partner to Cliff. I started experiencing migraine attacks around age 6, the age Harper is now. But they’ve been chronic and unrelenting since 2003.
Researchers have learned so much about what happens in the migraine brain. I’m currently receiving a preventive therapy developed specifically for people with this disease, and it has been encouraging. I’m also using a treatment medication for migraine that has been a great new development resulting from cutting edge research that has far fewer side effects than older medications. But migraine is an incredibly complex disease. We need much, much more research to truly reduce the burden. Research is expensive and migraine disease is extremely underfunded when we consider the burden of the disease.
Thank you for your support of me and this cause.
