In Switzerland, very few people are aware that most flowers sold by florists or in supermarkets come from third-world countries, or are produced with non-organic standards.
We believe the public needs to become aware of these issues. While it may seem that flowers are a minor issue, it revelas an underlying ignorance for market regulations and organic agriculture that also apply to food. By focusing on flowers first, we want the public to then question what they eat, and whether the standards governing food are any different.
It is possible to buy organic flowers, through flower delivery or by a florist in Switzerland. At present, the rate is less than 10%. Most of the offer is non-organic. Our goal by raising awareness is to increase the marketshare of fair trade, organic flowers in Switzerland.
