Detroit Horse Power teaches five core social-emotional skills through riding and caring for horses: Perseverance, Empathy, Responsible risk-taking, Confidence, and Self-control (PERCS). Summer is our peak season, with more students than ever going through our one-week horse camps in 2018.
The end of summer can be a bittersweet time for students who want to continue their journey with horses and character development through the school year. That is why we launced the PERCS after-school program last school year, serving 13 students.
We are preparing to more than double our year-round capacity to accommodate 30 students through the 2018-19 school year. And we need your help.
Your contribution will keep the power of horses going through the academic year. We meet every week after school in a Detroit classroom setting, focused on the life lessons horses teach us. On weekends we travel to different horse barns around the region to keep the horse connection strong. This comes as we move closer to our long-term goal of repurposing vacant land for a new urban equine education center within Detroit's city limits.
Thank you for expanding the power of horses to more kids and communities in Detroit!
