Passionate about art and the community, Designs for Dreams is a team of students from Eastlake High School fundraising for the American Cancer Society. Empowered by this idea, they created the Designs for Dreams event; a T-shirt design competition in which anyone can submit a design for an entry donation of $5. The winner will not only receive a $25 Metropolitan Market gift card and a package of Midliner highlighters, but will also have their design featured on T-shirts to be sold to the public in order to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Designs for Dreams offers a number of raffle activities with prizes ranging from Metropolitan Market gift cards to a Cold Stone Creamery signature cake. Of course, all proceeds from Designs for Dreams will be going directly to the American Cancer Society.
Along with our passion for volunteering, we also enjoy art and decided to combine the two to create Designs for Dreams. This event was modeled after the virtual formats of other American Cancer Society events, such as Paws for a Cause and Relay for Life.
Designs for Dreams features two volunteer groups, the Community Outreach Team and the Logistics Team. The Community Outreach Team is involved in spreading information regarding our mission throughout the community. The Logistics Team works on the other end, focusing on the details, research, and development of the event. The planning process has required a large commitment, and many of our volunteers take on individual work and projects in addition to meeting for two hours, twice a week.
Our journey thus far has included the following phases: planning the event and reaching out to various supporters in the community. After many conversations, and with the support of our contact at the American Cancer Society, we came up with a suitable event timeline. We settled on accepting design submissions from February 8th to March 15th, and then opening up for community voting until March 22nd. Orders for T-shirts can be placed from March 23rd to April 5th.The next stage involved contacting businesses in our community about possible sponsorships. Costco, Safeway, Cold Stone Creamery (Redmond Town Center location), the Metropolitan Market, and Chipotle have graciously supported our cause. During this time, the Community Outreach Team looked to further integrate into our community through smaller programs such as Game Nights and discussions with fellow artists in our area. Months of planning have led to this moment, where we unite our community in a common goal to raise money for the American Cancer Society through generous donations. We have set up this GoFundMe to collect donations, and donations can also be made at cancer.org.
Thank you for your support!
