Eastern Queens Alliance, Inc. , a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, is a federation of civic associations in Southeast Queens, NY. It is passionate about the preservation of Idlewild Park Preserve, environmental education and environmental justice. It has offered environmental education to children and adults for years through its Idlewild Salt Marsh Environmental Center Program. Mostly it operated out of an office trailer in Idlewild Park Preserve, an ecological jewel in Southeast Queens. In 2009, the Queens Borough President Helen Marshall allocated $5,000,000 to build a nature center out of which Eastern Queens Alliance would be able to offer a full array of programs. In subsequent years, Borough President Melina Katz made additional allocations to meet the projected rising construction costs. Finally, in 2019, the construction started. We are excited to tell you that the nature center is slated to open in the January of 2021.
The money allocated for the building, however, was not enough to support the installation of a fully interactive exhibition space in the center. The space will be there, but the exhibition space needs to be designed and the exhibit installed. The theme for the area will be "Man With Nature, Man Against Nature". It will be interactive including reptile, fish and live animal exhibits. Won't you help us to make the exhibit area an exciting space for learning? Please donate!
