Thank you for visiting my donation page for the 2020 Cape Cod Bay Challenge. This will be my 4th year participating in the event and training has been going well for the event. With the current COVID-19 Pandemic, things are different everywhere and this years event is following social distancing guidelines and enhanced safety protocals than ever before. As such, rather than paddle the 34 mile trip across Cape Cod Bay as in the past, I will be paddling along side a few fellow paddlers doing a modified 20 mile paddle in Mt. Hope Bay.
The purpose of the event is to raise money for a wonderful non-profit organization called Christopher’s Haven. Christopher’s Haven provides housing to children (and their families) that come to Mass General Hospital in Boston for a certain type of pediatric cancer treatment. The treatment lasts 6-8 weeks and the burden of finding housing for that period of time in Boston can be financially and emotionally overwhelming. Christopher's Haven is located adjacent to the hospital, where seven large and completely furnished apartments and a community space are available to families who travel from out of state or outside the country for daily outpatient treatments.
You may be thinking "why" would I be doing this, 20 miles of non-stop open-ocean stand-up paddling, well to answer that, I have been enjoying the sport of stand-up paddle boarding for over a decade and now I find myself in the privileged position of being able to do something I have a passion for while raising money to support a cause that many folks in New England are unaware of. The families at Christopher’s Haven face unimaginable challenges and the strength and courage with which they face these challenges is awe inspiring. Witnessing this strength and courage drives me to do whatever I can to make their lives a little bit easier and hopefully allow them to focus all their efforts on the task at hand….beating cancer. The Cape Cod Challenge's primary goal is to raise money for a truly wonderful charitable cause: Christopher’s Haven. We do this by bringing together a group of people who forge new friendships and deep bonds as they physically and mentally challenge themselves through the sport of stand-up paddleboarding.
