In 1986 Howard E. Deppe initiated and founded the the All-Star Baseball Classic. Howard and a group of volunteer baseball coach got together and decided to start this All-Star Classic as a way to recognize the local high school senior baseball players one final time and to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Howard Deppe was Chairman of the American Cancer Society All-Star Baseball Classic from 1986-2000, and upon his passing in April 2000, the event was named in his honor.
The All-Star Classic has been played throughout the years at Balliet Stadium in Coplay, PA, and at its current home in beautiful Limeport Stadium. Various game formats for the event have been used, and the Frank Yelinko Hitting Contest started in 1996.
Today, the event still looks to showcase the areas local high school senior baseball players while raising money for the American Cancer society. This year the event will be celebrating the 35th annual All-Start Classic with a Frank Yelinko Hitting Contest including not only the players but also the Alumni of the game. Followed by that will be the 9 inning game pinning the Eastern Penn Conference All-Stars against the Colonial Conference. Both teams will be wearing jerseys dawning the colors of different cancer ribbons to bring awareness to those awful diseases. This year the teams will be representing Orange for cancer of the kidneys, Grey for brain cancer and Light Purple representing stomach cancer.
