On November 3, 2019, I will run my first New York City Marathon. I am dedicating my 26.2 miles to honor the memory of the 16 heroes of Yanky 72.
On July 10, 2017, Yanky 72, a USMC KC-130T cargo plane carrying 16 US servicemen, crashed into a Mississippi field, killing all aboard:
Cpl. Collin J. Schaaff, Cpl. Daniel I. Baldassare, Petty Officer 1st Class Ryan M. Lohrey, Staff Sgt. William J. Kundrat, Sgt. Dietrich A. Schmieman, Sgt. Chad E. Jenson, Sgt. Joseph J. Murray, Staff Sgt. Robert H. Cox, Sgt. Talon R. Leach, Sgt. Owen J. Lennon, Staff Sgt. Joshua M. Snowden, Gunnery Sgt. Brendan C. Johnson, Gunnery Sgt. Mark A. Hopkins, Sgt. Julian M. Kevianne, Capt. Sean E. Elliott, and Maj. Caine M. Goyette
My brother was not on the plane that day, but he worked with 9 of these men. They were more than his co-workers, they were his friends, his brothers, his military family.
These men left behind children and families that were devasted by their loss. The Wingman Foundation has been there for all of them. The Wingman Foundation is an all-volunteer, veteran-founded non-profit organization dedicated to providing immediate post-mishap support for the Navy and Marine Corps Aviation community and their families. In addition to providing immediate support, they are also proud to ensure our fallen heroes are never forgotten and the loved ones they leave behind are always supported.
Please join me in honoring the sacrifice of these men and in supporting The Wingman Foundation.
