In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Meet Sasha and his mother. They had to flee the territory of hostilities in eastern Ukraine (Donetsk). It saved his life but at the same time, they lost everything: housing, work, clothing, household items.
Now they live in Kyiv, in a hospital. They have been living here for two years. To pay for their room, his mother cleans at the hospital.
His mother has noticed that he appears to be in pain from his mouth / teeth. He was seen by a dentist who advised he needs several fillings and potential extractions. Because Sasha has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, he needs this dental work to be done under general anesthetic. This increases the cost substantially. His mother cannot afford the cost of this surgery and has asked for help for son.
Can you help provide comfort to Sasha?
