The unexpected death of our son, JohnMark Elisha, in 2003, was one of the hardest things we have had to walk through as a couple and as a family.
Other than the obvious initial shock of finding out our sweet baby boy had died, Chuck and I were quite surprised by many things that went with this whole process. We were fortunate enough to have people that had experienced the loss of a child that helped us through many of the steps. But, a lot of it was shocking, isolating and lonely as we found ourselves walking through the unthinkable. Many times, I had the thought, “If someone could have told me about this part of the process, I think I could have handled it better.” This led to the idea of this booklet. Surviving Stillbirth is a booklet that is meant to gently guide people through the practicals of this terrible event. The way your body is responding during this may be confusing or even disturbing. It is also important to know emotionally what to look for in the days ahead. This is written to give people a heads-up (as much as possible) on what is coming.
I actually wrote this out years ago and we have been able to share this booklet with people who found themselves in need. Even our doctor that delivered JohnMark has been able to give it to patients that have need of it. But, this past year, we shared it with 3 different couples experiencing stillbirth and felt the push to publish it. By getting this out onto major distributors’ websites, the booklet will be able to be accessed by people we don’t have personal contact with that might need this kind of help. I never wanted to have to write this booklet and I certainly wish no one else would ever need it. However, it is a great honor to be able to help people in this very personal way.
JohnMark is a big part of Re-Generation. The loss of him pushed us to a point in our faith where we truly understood God’s deep love for us. A very real part of our non-profit is to help people not only survive but to be able to thrive. This booklet, when published, will meet a very specific need that many people silently have.
JohnMark was and is a big part of our lives and we are also glad to honor him by helping other parents in their journey.
Please consider giving toward the publication fees of this booklet. This will give Re-Generation another resource to help those who have need.
