Late afternoon, on Wednesday, December 4th it was discovered that our walk-in freezer had stopped working. We lost all food that was inside. This included 28 turkeys, 350 pounds of prepared meals, and 160 pounds of other meat. This is a HUGE loss to our small pantry. The turkeys were going to be given to families for the holiday, at our December distribution. We currently have no meat to be distributed. This will have a huge impact on the families we serve. This time of year, when families are stretching every dollar they have, our clients rely heavily on the food they receive from us. Meat is a large expense for families to incur. At the Southwest Butler Food Cupboard it has been our mission and passion to provide families with healthy and varied sources of high quality protein.
The freezer is being repaired. It will take several days for it to be back up and running. It is important that we allow sufficient time for the freezer to be monitored, before we put any meat in it, to ensure it is functioning properly,
At this time, we are asking for prayers and monetary donations to help cover the cost of repairs and replacing the food that was lost. Due to the walk-in freezers’ current unpredictability and time constraints between now and our December 17th food distribution we are NOT asking for meat donations.
Please help us get the word out.
Thank you for your support in this time of special need!
