As a few of you know I've been training for a cycle in Death valley, which starts in a place ominously called, "Furnace Creek".
Death Valley is located in the northern Mojave Desert and is one of the hottest places in the world, recording a temperature of 134 °F (56.7 °C) which stands as the highest ambient air temperature ever recorded at the surface of the Earth. (I'm hoping by the end of November it will have cooled off a little...!)
As well as the huge satisfaction you may get from the idea of me completing this grueling cycle, I am dedicating the ride to raise some money for EMpower - The Emerging Markets Foundation, a global philanthropy focused on at-risk youth in emerging market countries. Please do dig deep - its really a fantastic charity which positively impacts thousands of lives around the world.
EMpower strategically invests in vital, local organizations who work to empower youth. Over almost 20 years, EMpower has made a 1,000+ grants, awarded $30M, have impacted more than 610K lives and touched the lives of 1M+. www.empowerweb.org
