The Deaf Action Center's List list has grown to 42 Deaf individuals that have contacted us for assistance and there may be more as the storm damage is widespread. Some of them have experienced devastating damage to their homes causing them to be inhabitable at this time. All 42 have completely loss all their food, power and water. For the deaf, assistance doesn’t come as quickly due to the communication break down. They are without interpreters right now because the agencies and interpreters have also experienced loss and are not able to work.
The Louisiana Association for the Deaf's (LAD) Board has decided to set up an emergency financial distribution program and we would like for anyone to contribute to this fund and LAD will distribute the pool of funds to each individual evenly. They succeeded in distributing $300 to 41 individuals impacted by the Great Flood of 2016 and they would like to do even more this time around. Their goal is $500.00 each family that has been impacted. Our local interpreters (Deaf Action Center) are providing interpreting services via video as much as we can to help out with the paper work etc, that they are having to fill out. We are praying that the Simple Church can help make a difference in this area. Although they are hours from us, they are still very much a part of our community.
