When I graduated from Christopher Newport University in May, I knew I was ending one chapter of my life and beginning a new one. New graduates have a multitude of options, but I was certain of one thing: I knew I wanted to spend my first post-grad year doing work with meaning. While it’s difficult to leave the familiar – CNU, my friends, and my family – I have joined the PULSE program in Pittsburgh, Pa. I could not be more excited to share my PULSE journey with you.
PULSE cultivates a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. This organization invites recent college graduates like me to partner with Pittsburgh-area nonprofits for a year of service and leadership. I feel blessed to have the chance to live in and serve Pittsburgh with my skills and gifts in a way that uplifts those who need it most.
I cannot wait to get started exploring the nonprofit sector while growing both personally and professionally. I’m especially looking forward to being surrounded by other servant leaders in an intentional community setting where we encourage one another to make service a way of life. I know that my cohort of PULSE fellows will challenge me, not only to make an impact on my nonprofit partner but also to soak up as much knowledge as possible during my PULSE year. This experience will help me work toward my personal goal of being on the leadership team of a large nonprofit organization and help transform our society.
Part of my first task as a PULSE participant is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this work. I realize that I can’t do this work alone; I need others to partner alongside me as I serve, live, and grow during the next year.
I hope you will consider supporting me in my work with PULSE. I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2,500 to cover expenses for this year of service and leadership. Your support of any amount will help impact the lives of Pittsburgh’s most vulnerable and help spread the mission of PULSE throughout the city.
Thank you for walking with me on my journey, and for your investment in the PULSE program. I am so blessed and grateful to have your support. You can be sure I will keep you in my prayers throughout my PULSE experience.
