After speaking with my closest friends and family, this holiday season seems to be a particularly trying one for the majority of friends and family I have spoken with. I think we can all agree that everyone is feeling the effects of COVID in some aspect of their lives. Personally, I have seen added levels of stress on relationships due to the many hardships living in a pandemic has caused. Many regular healthy routines and safe spaces that create healthy relationships have disappeared, while being in isolation has created environments conducive to domestic violence. And for those subjected to abuse, the challenges to find support in a safe and sustainable manner have only increased.
As we both have personally been impacted by domestic violence, Dakota and I felt it was important to not only shed light on the current issue, but to create a positive impact and help those who need it most over the holidays. Currently, Safehouse Denver is only allowing scheduled drop-offs, so instead of just asking of friends for individual donations, we thought it would be most effective to create a GoFundMe and coordinate one large drop off with the shelter.
Both limitations on travel and occupancy within shelters have severely impacted the options women and children have to seek a safe haven. We would like to make sure that the people that cannot seek safety within the shelter at least have adequate resources for the upcoming weeks.
We spoke with members of the Safehouse Denver team and learned of the many challenges they are facing as THE ONLY Woman and Children’s shelter in the metro area.
Currently, SafeHouse Denver isn’t allowed to have regular volunteers that alleviate some of the pressure put on the shelter. Additionally, SHD was unexpectedly forced to purchase their building to stay in operation and provide support to those in need. This has created a unique financial burden on the organization and has made every in-kind and monetary donation more significant than it ever has been.
We both know everyone has been stretched thin by this pandemic, so even the smallest donation you have to share will be put to good use and greatly appreciated.
As we raise funds we will continue to keep you updated with our progress and the impact your donations are making!!
Funds will be used for:
20% Cash Donations for discretionary use by SHD
40% Kid’s Clothing Items
20% Women’s Clothing
10% Hygiene and Non-Perishable Foods
If you would like to donate towards a specific area, please private message with where you would like your donation to go:
