David was born without half of his immune system and contracted polio from the oral polio vaccine as an infant. With David as a "Poster Child," his family worked for 10 years to change the polio vaccine to a safer product. They succeeded in 2001 and prevented hundreds of other children from contracting polio. David's dying wish was to make a difference for others born with immune deficiency disorders. The Immune Deficiency Foundation established "The David Salamone Fund" to help support awareness initiatives to educate people who are living with an undiagnosed form of primary immunodeficiency disease and reduce time for diagnosis and lifesaving treatment. David's parents are appealing to others to support this initiative.
