Please help me raise money for the David Ortiz Children's Fund.
On April 20, 2020, Team Big Papi, with David Ortiz as our Captain, consisting of 34 chosen Boston Marathon Participants will have raised at least $190,000 and realized our respective Boston Marathon Goals.
The David Ortiz Children’s Fund is focused on expanding their program to provide a dedicated pediatric hemodynamic catherization lab for kids with Congenital Heart Disease in the Dominican Republic. The money raised by this team will be used to buy the required medical equipment for their new lab at CEDiMAT Hospital. With the dedicated space, the new equipment and in partnership with MassGeneral Hospital for Children, the program will be completely sustainable.
I, Alberto "Al" Colin, am honored to have been chosen to join Team Big Papi and I am asking for your support in helping me to do my part to equip the new wing of the hospital with the needed hemodynamic biplane equipment. First, I ask that you pray for the kids and their families. Second, I am asking for a donation in support of our effort in providing a long and healthy life for the kids with Congenital Heart Disease. Who can say NO to a kid? I can’t, and so here I am, out of my comfort zone, asking you for your hard-earned money or to make one sacrifice in the next 138 days (until the start of the 124th Boston Marathon) by deferring a non-essential expense to my fundraising campaign.
David Ortiz, “Big Papi”, is a legend in both Baseball and in his humanitarian work. He is the recipient of the 2011 Roberto Clemente Award (for service to his community), 3x World Series Champion, 2013 World Series MVP, 10x All Star, 7x Silver Slugger and a future First Ballot Hall of Famer (HOF Ballots with his name will go out at the end of 2021). With his emotional speech at Fenway Park after the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombings, The City of Boston looked to Big Papi for strength, courage and comfort, he was the pillar for the City of Boston and rallied the city to take their city back. I am excited to see what we will do as Team Big Papi. If we are like David’s other team, The Boston Red Sox, and with your support, show of love and compassion, we will crush our goal like David crushed his 541 home runs!
The 124th running of the Boston Marathon will be my 10th Consecutive Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest marathon and if you talk to any endurance athlete, the most coveted racing bib. Running on Team Big Papi for the David Ortiz Children’s Fund will make my 10th Boston Marathon, 65th marathon overall, the most memorable and purposeful. I look forward to carrying the thought of everybody that supported the cause along the 26.2 mile journey on April 20, 2020. Thank you.
