Since the pandemic hit, we've all struggled to maintain our coif. Well, friends... the time has come: I'm offering to shave my head for a good cause!
I serve on the board of Reading In Motion, an organization that is meaningful to me because the ability to read is powerful. Since 1983, Reading In Motion has served more than 100,000 students in kindergarten and first grade, helping build a foundation in literacy to support them throughout their education and lives. A majority of the students we serve are young people of color and we know inequities within our education system directly affect these students, and greatly influence their futures before they even meet their classmates. While issues of racial injustice extend far beyond the classroom, we believe education and literacy are the foundations of future success, and through our early reading programs we work to ensure students have the skills needed to reach their potential.
Help me meet my UPDATED goal of $15,000 for Reading In Motion... and I will match it $1 for $1! If I meet my goal, I'll shave a mohawk, color it blue, and continue shaving my head LIVE during a Happy Hour on Google Meet on July 7, 2020 to benefit Reading In Motion!
A GOOGLE MEET HAPPY HOUR LINK WILL BE SENT TO CONTRIBUTORS ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT.
From Reading In Motion:
Guided by our mission and supported by our community of donors like you, we have expanded and refined our curriculum. After serving the city of Chicago for many years, we added programming in Las Vegas (2017) and recently piloted a fully remote coaching program in Detroit (Fall of 2019.) We’ve offered tailored support and coaching to teachers throughout the COVID-19 crisis, and know our work doesn’t end here. As the school year concludes, we are adapting our curriculum into a 100% virtual program, Reading Together, Anywhere!, which will allow us to support students next Fall in any form that schooling takes. Like teachers and school administrators across the nation, we’ll be focusing in these final school days, and in the months leading up to the new school year, on developing this completely remote version of our curriculum, helping to bring the classroom into homes across the country. But we cannot do it without your help!!
