Hello friends! With my 30th birthday quickly approaching at the end of February, my amazing husband, sister and friends have been asking me for months now how I'd like to celebrate. I've decided this year I want to give back to a cause that is close to my heart. This year, rather than having a party where my guest would spend money on drinks, transportation, and bowling shoes ;), I'd love nothing more than your support in helping me raise $1,000 for Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation.
This year, I am most thankful for my two healthy boys. At a routine check-up in December, Gabe's physician heard a heart murmur. We were then scheduled to go see a cardiac specialist right away due to our family's history. Some of you may not be aware, but I had a sister named Heather who passed away at six months old from a Congenital Heart Defect. You can only image the intense fear that overtook my body when the doctor mentioned hearing the murmur. Pat and I knew that within an instant, our entire lives could be changed forever.
We were so incredibly thankful to find out that Gabe has something minor called Bicuspid Aortic Valve. This diagnosis is very easily managed and shouldn't cause him any issues later in life. While we were thrilled to hear this news, we also realize many other heart families aren't as lucky. Ever since that appointment, Pat and I have truly realized how lucky we are to have two healthy, beautiful boys.
With all that said, for my 30th birthday this year I would love nothing more than to have my family and friends help me to support Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation - an organization that works to support families of children battling congenital heart defects financially, emotionally and in ways unique to their needs. Their aim is not only to relieve financial burden – enabling them to be in the moment with their young warrior – but to listen, share, uplift and strengthen them as they march on. I encourage you to watch the video uploaded to this page to learn more!
To support my goal of raising $1,000, you can purchase a Mighty Oakes Heart Foundation wooden heart from me (pictured on my front door in the photo). A small heart can be purchased for $15.00 or a large heart for $30.00. You make your donations online or provide me with cash or check. If you don't want a heart, but would like to make a gift towards my goal, you can do that as well!
