For my Mitzvah Project, I have chosen to raise money for Experience Camps. Experience Camps provides free, one-week camps for kids who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling. It's a place where kids can laugh, cry, play, create, remember the person who died, and learn how to best deal with their grief. It's a place where they can feel "normal" because all of the other campers (and many of the volunteers) have been through something similar and understand what it's like to lose someone important to them. My dad tragically lost his father 6 months before his own Bar Mitzvah. Unfortunately places like Experience Camps did not exist at that time, but he would definitely have benefited from such a program.
I chose this as my mitzvah project for 2 reasons:
(1) Experience Camps has been a part of my family for most of my life. My dad is on the Board of Directors and my mom, dad and Aunt Lisa volunteer as camp counselors each summer.
(2) Camp is a major part of my life, as I have been lucky enough to attend Camp IHC for the past 4 summers, and I am excited to help other kids get to have a camp experience.
My goal for my Mitzvah Project is to raise $5,000 for Experience Camps. It costs $1,000 to send a kid to Experience Camps, so raising $5,000 would mean sending 5 more kids to Experience Camps this summer!
Please consider making a donation in honor of my Bat Mitzvah and in honor of Experience Camp’s 10-Year Anniversary.
