LGBT Teens Deserve Better!
Do you ever see homeless people on the street and think wow this is horrible. Well it's twice as worse for lgbt homeless youth. People think that there isn’t a lot of young lgbt homeless people in New York, and as it's 40% of the homeless youth that is LGBT people think that they shouldn’t be helped more. This is just simply untrue. Yes 40% of the homeless youth is LGBT but when you compare that to the population only 10% of people are LGBT so the ratio should be 10% but it isn't. This matters because LGBT youth are more vulnerable to abuse, attacks, and sexual assault while being homeless than their straight counterparts. If you donate to a charity that supports the homeless LGBT youth hopefully the abuse, torment and even the percent goes down.
The Ali Forney Center is a great community and charity that supports the LGBT homeless youth. Their mission is to “protect LGBTQ youths from the harms of homelessness.” They provide medical care, housing, and support for any child plagued with homelessness. This charity was started by a man named Carl Siciliano in 2002 to memorialize and to help the dreams of the late Ali Forney who was a great supporter and advocate of LGBT rights and helping homeless LGBT humans. WIth their organization there are many things that we can do to help as well, such as money donations, food donations, and more. So please consider donating to the Ali Forney Center to help a child in need.
