The 17th annual Dance Works 2021 Fundraiser Showcase was held on Sunday, 3/22/21, where we celebrated the mission of great causes, The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer along with The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation.
This production bridges the gap between professional dancers and local studio performance companies showcasing incredible works of art , represents the scope of dance in its many disciplines and highlights the process students take to bring their training to the stage to help change the lives of the community around them.
The iconic and world renowned PILOBOLUS, now celebrating their 50th year, presesnted two extrodinary pieces. One is based on shadow transformations and the other a duet that was filmed after quarantining together for 10 days
Studio performing companies included Breaking Ground Dance Center (Pleasantville), Dance NYAAD and the Isadora Duncan Youth Ensemble (Bedford), Dance Works (Harrison,Rye Brook & Tarrytown), the Deirdre O'Mara School of Irish Dance and East Pointe Dance (Rye Brook).
If you were unable to attend this event, I hope you will consider making a donation to support one of the causes most meaningful to you. Proceeds raised from this performance, from this donation website and from checks will be managed by the Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation which helps end the cycle of domestic violence and provides assistance to families in need by funding such programs as Margaret's Place.
Remember, you’re not alone and it’s not your fault. Joe Torre and his wife Ali run the The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation, which they founded in 2002 to help people experiencing domestic violence, as Joe did while growing up. The Foundation operates 16 safe centers in New York, New Jersey, California and Ohio schools, called Margaret's Place, as a tribute for Joe's mother. Each room is staffed by master's level therapist, who holds group and individual counseling; leads workshops for teachers to build a safer school environment and hosts workshops for parents/caregivers to make homes and communities stronger; leads awareness campaigns with students to prevent violence of all kinds, empowers young people to become advocates and leaders.
By speaking out publicly about his own very personal story, Joe has empowered many to seek help for themselves and provide information through his foundation to support those who don't know where to turn. The foundation supports children and adults by sharing information, educating and providing resources to turn to.
Even if you cannot make our event, we hope you will consider a donation to help support this very worthy cause.
Money will also be raised at this event for The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The American Cancer Society helps raise awareness and money to fund research, support services, and early detection.
