Dancers Workshop is a non-profit dance studio located in Lewisville, Texas founded in 1992 by Barbara Mebane. With an “all ages for all stages” approach to dance, Ms. Barbara wanted her studio to enrich the lives of both young and old. A rarity in the dance community, the studio has the largest adult dance program in North Texas, although it does have a robust children’s class schedule. Dancers Workshop offers classes including ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, ballroom, and more for beginner, intermediate, and advanced dancers of all ages. Ms. Barbara instituted a scholarship program because she believed everyone should have the opportunity to learn and grow through dance and to become a “good dancer” you must develop the “whole dancer”. Each member of Dancers Workshop becomes a part of a family, a family that encourages confidence, self-esteem, and perseverance. In October of 2019 Ms. Barbara passed away due to complications of a lung transplant. The grief and loss seemed almost unbearable but the studio rallied. Ms. Barbara’s husband Jim Mebane and daughter Cieson Stansbury and everyone at the studio were determined to keep Ms. Barbara’s memory and dream alive. Unfortunately January brought more challenges when a fire engulfed the Mebane home destroying precious memories as well as business records. Despite these challenges the Dancers Workshop family would not be discouraged. They continued to offer classes and scholarships until COVID-19 concerns and restrictions forced the studio to temporarily close its doors. However, the prolonged absence of students, funding, and series of unfortunate events has tapped out almost all of the studio’s resources. The hope is to raise enough funds to help them continue to bring joy and happiness through dance to all for many years to come, just as Ms. Barbara would have wanted. Each donation will go towards the operating costs, scholarships, and various expenses needed to keep the studio open. Dancers Workshop would like to thank all of the dancers, their families, and friends who have supported them throughout the years.
